Screens and Screen Analysis™

Save a market idea, then read its breadth, bias, benchmark performance, concentration, liquidity, themes, leaders, and risks.

by CR

A screen is one saved graph of the market: a named filter definition, sort order, and evidence view. Screen Analysis™ (SA™) reads the exact result set produced by that definition. Together they turn a disposable screener session into a market idea that can be reopened, shared, taught, and placed inside a Market Report.

The screen answers “Which coins belong?” SA answers “So what does this list say?” The answer changes as local market data changes. That is intentional. You saved the rule, not a screenshot of yesterday’s winners.

The first—and most advanced—Screen Analysis™ tool for crypto is built around the list, not another stack of per-ticker charts.

Build a screen worth analyzing

Design a screen that has a thesis

A screen needs a coherent universe and condition. “Top-500 coins with allGreen momentum and meaningful daily volume” has a thesis: established assets showing multi-window strength with participation. “Price below $5, meme category, high risk, any exchange, deep ATH discount” may combine unrelated preferences without a clear analytical question.

Name the screen after its durable rule and explain the purpose in its description. A good description states boundaries a reader might otherwise miss. Keep evidence columns that let someone audit membership.

Before saving, ask whether a coin’s presence can be explained without saying “because I like it.” If the answer points to the same explicit conditions for every row, the screen is portable and suitable for SA.

See a live example

All-Green Momentum is a public curated screen: top-500 coins that are green across 1h, 24h, and 7d, sorted by daily return. Scroll its Screen Analysis™ and rows below. Membership and the read update with the market — that is the point of saving a rule instead of a screenshot.

Use it while you read the SA layers that follow: glance first, then trend and benchmark, then liquidity and concentration, then named leaders. Ask whether the plain-English verdict matches what the table shows.

All-Green Momentum

Top-500 coins green across 1h, 24h, and 7d — strong short-term consensus.

Screen Analysis™ Mostly bullish

100% healthy · 20% weak across 77 coins. Typical coin is 1.6 pts behind BTC today. S, AMP out front.

Read Screen Analysis™ in layers

Glance: verdict, mood, and day breadth

The glance layer begins with a plain-English takeaway. Overall mood compares the share of allGreen coins with allRed coins. Mostly bullish means healthy coins clearly outnumber weak coins; mostly bearish means the reverse; mixed means neither side decisively leads. This is breadth inside the screen, not a prediction for the whole crypto market.

Day breadth separately counts coins above and below zero over 24h. This can disagree with overall mood. A list may have more coins up today while few are positive over all three windows, suggesting a bounce without broad multi-window alignment.

Start here to orient yourself — including on the live All-Green Momentum example above — then test the sentence against the deeper blocks. The headline is a navigation aid, not a substitute for the evidence below.

Read: trend, benchmark, and scores

The trend block compares upTrend and downTrend participation using the exact 1h/24h/7d ordering rules. It answers whether more members are getting stronger or weaker under that definition.

The benchmark block compares the median result-set return with Bitcoin over 24h and 7d when data is available. Median reduces the influence of one extreme winner. A screen can be positive in absolute terms yet trail Bitcoin; it can also be negative while falling less than Bitcoin. Relative performance adds context that a green/red table cannot provide alone.

Momentum and risk scores summarize the typical score and the share at high levels. Read them as character: hot, steady, or risky. Scores help describe a list; they do not override liquidity, concentration, or the underlying rows.

Read: liquidity, concentration, and themes

Trading interest uses 24h volume relative to market cap. SA reports coverage, the median ratio, and high-attention names. High attention currently requires at least 10% daily volume relative to market cap and market cap above $50M. This identifies unusual turnover while excluding the smallest assets from that label.

Concentration estimates how much of the screen’s market cap belongs to its five largest members. A high share means the list’s economic weight can tell a different story from its equal-count breadth. Ten small coins rising may not offset one giant falling if your question is value-weighted exposure.

Category mix shows recurring themes and untagged coverage. Because one coin can have multiple categories, theme percentages can overlap and need not sum to 100%.

Forensics: leaders, laggards, and named evidence

SA names leaders and laggards relative to the benchmark so you can move from aggregate language to individual evidence. Open those coins and inspect the exact returns, size, volume, signals, and categories. A leader can be genuinely representative, or it can be an isolated outlier carrying an otherwise weak list.

Use three questions:

  1. Does the named coin fit the screen for the reason the thesis intended?
  2. Is its move supported by enough trading participation for its size?
  3. Do peers share the behavior, or is this a single-name event?

Forensics keeps SA honest. Every conclusion should be traceable to rows, and every missing-data statement should remain visible rather than being filled with false precision.

Practice and limits

Worked example: selective strength

Suppose “Top-200 Layer-1 Momentum” returns 20 coins. Twelve are up today, six are allGreen, three are allRed, and the median coin trails Bitcoin by 1.2 percentage points over 24h. The top five hold 78% of the screen’s market cap, while two smaller coins show very high trading interest.

A full read is: “Daily breadth is positive, and healthy names outnumber weak ones, but the typical coin is trailing Bitcoin. Economic weight is concentrated in five assets, while unusual attention sits in smaller members. Strength exists, but it is selective rather than broad leadership.”

That conclusion uses direction, participation, relative performance, size, and character. “Mostly bullish” alone would omit the most decision-relevant tension in the list.

Limitations and comparison discipline

SA is only as meaningful as the screen definition and available data. A tiny result set can swing sharply when one member changes. A broad category can hide subthemes. Missing volume reduces liquidity coverage. Category tags can overlap or be absent. Vendor values arrive on sync cadence rather than as a websocket tick.

Do not compare two SA percentages without checking their universes. Sixty percent healthy among ten micro caps is not equivalent to sixty percent among the top 100. Record the denominator, size boundaries, and purpose.

SA is also not Technical Analysis. It does not replace chart structure, execution planning, project research, or risk controls. Its edge is a readable, consistent analysis of the filtered universe.

The screen-to-report workflow

  1. Ask one answerable market question.
  2. Build the universe and conditions in CryptoScreener.
  3. Inspect the rows and the full SA read.
  4. Refine filters that create unintended membership or hidden concentration.
  5. Save the rule with a durable name and clear description.
  6. Revisit it as data changes.
  7. Place complementary screens into a Market Report when one graph cannot tell the whole story.

A screen is one graph. A Market Report is the product. The report adds sequence, commentary, contrast, and a conclusion while each embedded screen keeps its live evidence and Screen Analysis.
